Kittens love to play - one minute they are full, the next they are drowsy and falling asleep where they fell. The best way to play with kittens is to encourage them to play with different toys, including toys that can be interacted with individually (like a ball circuit) and toys that can be used together (fishing rods are always a winner, but always make sure your kitten is supervising) .

Rotate the types of toys your kitten uses so they don't get bored. If you notice that your kitten is exhibiting predatory behavior (stalking, lunging, jumping, biting or scratching) then they may be bored - you can distract them by providing physical and mental enrichment with toys.

You may be tempted to play with your kitten with your fingers or toes, but this should be avoided. If they think this is an acceptable form of play, you could be doing some harm when they grow into adult cats! This type of inappropriate play is common in kittens. Therefore, it is important to teach them through the use of positive reinforcement rather than by blaming them. Ignore unwanted behaviors to avoid inadvertently encouraging them through reactions. If they use your feet as toys, stay completely still so they are no longer "prey."
